This week on the Live to Walk Again Podcast we have another illustrious guest in Dr. Samuel Stupp. Dr. Stupp is the Professor of Chemistry, Materials Science and Engineering, Medicine and Biomedical Engineering at Northwestern University and is the Dir. of the Simpson Querry Institute for BioNanotechnology at Northwestern University. We discussed the brilliant study that his team is working on developing an injectable gel that could be used at the site of an acute spinal cord injury, how he got involved in spinal cord injury research, and how this study can eventually impact people living with long-term SCI. Dr. McCreedy heads up the McCreedy Lab at Texas A&M University and their research into imaging/mapping out the spinal cord and the way that neutrophils, which are the cells that respond to a spinal cord injury first, impacting the injury site both positively and negatively. We also spoke about what influenced him to start studying SCI/neurological injuries, the role that oversight place in spinal cord injury research, and the future of that research.
